My self-initiated brief was to create and promote a British pasta company that sold upmarket dry pasta. I tackled this by tapping into the effort consumers make to dress up when they go out to eat and through my campaign I encouraged them to make the same effort when buying this product. I did this by integrating well-known pasta shapes into images that suggest fine dining.

Emerge 2011 is no ordinary graduate showcase but a discovery of graphic design, through graphic design.

Both as a designer and as an observer, graphic design has many roles in our day to day lives. It is not just a job, or a logo, or a website or a book. It allows us to learn, to develop and to enjoy.

This exhibition showcases the work of 12 graphic design graduates from 2011 and through their work, highlights the roles for which graphic design can be celebrated in making our lives richer.

Promote, a product, a place, an ideal.
Inform, educate, deliver a message, spread news.
Play, have fun, experiment, fail.
Explore, search, discover.

All featured graduates come personally recommended from leading industry professionals.

I produced the ORB logo ident for a film collective. They wanted a simply piece of motion to reflect one aspect of cinematography such as lighting effects / props or camera animation. I focused on lighting as the main feature, utilising the software to tie together their ideas and logo for a combined aesthetic.

AWOL
AWOL was my Final Major Project at University, a self-written brief that stemmed from my dissertation looking at Wayfinding Systems and Modernity. I became increasingly interested in the notion of getting lost, and wanted to contend that it wasn’t such a bad thing.

I developed AWOL, a guide to getting lost, encouraging exploration and an increased awareness of your surroundings through a series of algorithmic walks. A compass that doesn't work helps you to get lost even quicker, and the package comes in a custom map case with blue trim.

Clouded Vision
Branding and artwork for Clouded Vision, a London based house duo and record label. I responded with a bold, almost illegible type treatment and contemporary disco ball design that can easily be updated with different colour ways for each release.

Origin Network is a tool to aid in crisis situations around the world. It is a data sharing network where members across the world can contribute 'content' to the website, possibly a twitter feed, photos by an amateur photographer, specialist content like info graphics or web apps or info from a professional in a specialist field. Cumulatively the sources produce the largest, most accurate and useful information resource available.

Origin’s Japan Disaster 2011 site was reporting news 3 hours ahead of the BBC

Origin also provides design solutions for helping on the ground. A distillation process can convert the digital information into a printed format that can be sent by data connections as small as SMS. Aid boxes were also created in consultation with the British Red Cross to allow signage and data collection tools to be taken into sensitive areas where often only the minimum amount of goods can be transported.

The brief asked to choose any existing national retail outlet, company or organization and rebrand it by giving it a new identity. I chose to rebrand the National Maritime Museum. My idea is based around a simple graphic that is friendly enough for everyone to understand instantly. The subtlety of the idea (reading n m m) is what makes everything work well together. The wave graphic helped me to implement the identity on all the printed material.

Personal project in collaboration with the tee shirt designer and founder of the ModernLOVE brand Mathew Moore. I wanted to create a full concept shoot for editorial and promotional use. The MondernLOVE collection features unisex tees so I wanted to show the versatility of the tees so styled each model with a different look. A simple casual concept and a utility branding with the logo tattoos fitted the style of the tees and also the brand ethos.

“The bean had sprung up into a big beanstalk which went up and up till it reached the sky.”

These are the words of Joseph Jacob from his well know fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk”. Jacob fertile imagination describes a beanstalk that has grown to immeasurable height. Today we can see these fictions made real-the genetic modification of plants has meant that mutant vegetables are not longer the stuff of legend.

My screen-printed and hand bound book combines motifs and narratives taken traditional fairy tales to forms a new and contemporary moral tale that warns of the dangers of GM of plants.

The Type House is an imaginary space, which features an exhibition space, a shop and a cafe, all of which is soley dedicated to typography.

I created the identity of each individual element (shop, show and cafe) which then lead me to design a full A-Z custom to the Type House which I then took and applied individual letterforms to a variety of products and elements within the environment, such as the plates and mugs etc that would be seen within in the café, all of which, along with other items featuring single letters, can also be purchased in the shop. The exhibition space simply demonstrates a variety of typographic work.
